Assignment #8 - Redo (Get on your belly)

　　　　Last time for this assignment, Get on your belly, I took most of pictures horizontally, and I think that was not good. So this time, I tried to take picture vertically a lot. Also, I wanted to use perspective of looking up so people seeing my pictures would know that I was lower than the objects in the picture and i was looking up them; however, it was so hard to take care of a lot of things: angle, light, object, subject of this assignment, and weather it is horizontal or vertical. Also, the weather was not good for last few days before the due day, so even though I tried to re-shoot some pictures, it didn't work well. So I think in this assignment I didn't have many sweet light I wanted. So, I think I am not that successful as much as I expected for redoing this assignmnet. However, I think overall I did better this time on this assignment because most of picture I took have the perspective of looking up which was a theme of this assignment.


In this picture I really like the light and the composition.


I really like this picture becuase of the composition and contrast. Because I thought lines are the perfect to show some perspectives, I was looking for lines, and finally I found them. I wanted for perspective in this picture, so I tried several times, but it was do hard to get more. And I liked the compositon of this picture so did not want to change and rerange it, so I just took this picture with this angle.


Actually for this picture, I was trying to take picture of the leg of this desk. But while I am taking picture, I realized that someone write sme numbers with white chalk under the desk, and I thought there must be some story behind; it can be the price of the desk, or some scribe the my little cousins wrote. Even though I do not know that story, I think it still tells some stories. So I started to take picture of beneath part of desk. I think this picture is one of few pictures that have story among this assignment.


This picture does not have much perspective or stories, but I like this picture becuase of the shapes in the picture. I really like that this picture has both circular shape and lines.


I wish I had more black part in this picture. But this picture does not have much black, so I could not get blacks as much as I wanted even thoght I increased black a lot (it made the pictures only more black overall). But I think it is still a good picture.


This picture is out of focus because the dog kept moving while I took the pictures. But I like this picture because I think the legs are so cute (I don't know why). This dog's name is Ruby, and she is a red hiller. She has brown furs. So I just left this picture little dark because if I increase the exposure, the color of her fur in this picture get brighter than the actual color.




This is yellow tulips. This picture was so hard to take. I was laying down on the floor and my camera was also so close to the floor, so it was hard to focus. The sky is kind of distracting, but I think it is a great picture for expressing a perspective.


I think this picture is interesting because it has perspectives of not only looking up, but also looking further.

Assignment #7 - Numbers

　　　This number assignment was so hard. I am not good at it eventhough I like it. I think if we can take pictures not necessarily in order, it would not be that hard as it was. At the first time I did not know that we should take the numbers in order, so I did not take them in order. So I restarted this assignment over, and it took me a tons of time this week. However, it was fun to find numbers around me even though it was hard to find them; actually it was hard to pick up some numbers from objects. So when I pick one kind of object, like rocks or cups, set them up, and take picture of them, it was much easier to make some good pictures than when I just look for some random numbers from some objevt around me.
　　　Usually I take picture at home or just in my neighborhood since I don't have a car and much time either. However, for this assignment I went outside with my friends to take pictures. We drove somewhere and pick one place and take pictures there. I took all of my pictures of rocks there. It was around 4:30 and it was sunny; That makes a very good light, and I love that light. So I picked most of my pictures that I printed and posted on my blog from the pictures that I took there. So I think from now on I am going to take picture outside in the daytime.
　　　For this assignment I was thinking about time lapping - take pictures of same place or same object every single minutes. However, I thought it is not that related to numbers because I thought people cannot recognize the number except me (maybe I cannot either), so I gave up. But I think time lapping is so cool that I am going to do it for my final project, and I am so excited for it.




This picture is for number ONE!!!
I was reading a book titled "There Is No Children Here." And I liked the way the chapters of this book writen. So I just took it. Before I took this picture I had taken a picture similar to this
and I liked the composition a lot. So I made the composition of this picture similar to the other picture again. Also, I really like the black lines and light changing. Other letters beside ONE is blurry and I like it so much since it makes ONE more stands out. However, this picture is actually more focused on the paper instead of ONE, but still I really like the feeling of this picture.


This is TWO!!!
Actually it was eight, but it doesn't look like eight that much since it is horizontal. However, I really like this picture. Light, texture, focus, background, composition, and especailly the feeling, everything is perfect for me. I don't know why but I really like taking pictures of nature, trees, flowers, rocks, or sky. I just like the feeling of Nature.


This is SEVEN!!!
It is a crack on a tree bark. For this picture, I wish more parts be focused; however I really like taking picture with slant angle, not with totally vertical or horizontal angle. I couldn't make more parts of this picture be focused with the angle I wanted. So I chose to take picutre like this - less part is focused, but the angle is slant. And I still like this picture.


This is NINE!!!
I put nine dark and black rocks on a broken tree. I put exactly nine rocks, but it looks like ten and I don't know what happened because the back part is blurry. I think one of them is part of the tree. I don't know why, but I really like a piture that one part of it is really focused, and the other part is blurry. It might be because of contrast, and because it makes one part more stands out.


This is TEN!!!
The left is Vanessa, and the right is Mack. I really like that they both wearing similar kinds of clothes (dresses) but the color is opposite (White and Black). Also, they are not wearing shoes, and I don't know why but I really like them not wearing shoes. In these picture niether of Vanessa nor Mack does not look like nervous or frozen; it looks natural, so whenever I see this picture, I laugh. It is a very lovely picture.


This is TWELVE!!!
It is dirt on a white dotted rock. I was thinking about drawing twelve on ground, but when I was drawing, I realized that I could use dirt. So I found big flat white rock, and made 12 with the dirt on the rock.


This is FOURTEEN!!!
This is fourteen plates. Even though the plates are all same, they look different depends on where I put them and the angle that I am looking at them; I think it is so interesting. I like the curves and the layers of the plates. I took this picture at home, but near by a window; therefore, it still has a good light.


This is TWENTY-SEVEN!!!
It is a cube, and I can see twenty-seven of sqaures. I like the feeling of worn out instead of new.


This is SIXTY!!!
I made the number with a piece of wood on the road. I really like the contrast between the road and the shade of wood. Also I like the color of the wood too.


This is EIGHTY-EIGHT!!!
I don't know what these called, but they were fallen from some tree; I picked them up and made eighty-eight with them.

Assignment #6 - Portrait

Portrait is So hard for me
I don't still get how I can express someone's personality trhough the pictures
but I think I did better that I did portrait before
But I wish I could take pictures in day so I could use sun light more
because I am playing sport and I had games last week and this week
I got home late so I could not usually take pictures in day
That makes me feel little bad for this assignment
However, I could see the improvement through this assignment
For this assignment while I was taking their picture,I made my model to tell me a story that made me happy or sad
So their feeling could be express through the pictures naturally, not artificially.
And I think I am successful with some pictures and not successful with some other pictures
I could really remember everything about what they told me when I see some pictures even though it has been almost one or two weeks from the day I took it
Because the pictures are expressing how they felt at that time and telling me that story again through the pictures
Although portrait is hard, it is every interesting to take people and try to catch the moments when people have feeling

Although she is looking at something else than the camera I really like her eyes

She is standing and I used a chair to take this picture to looking down from up
I like this picture since it is focused
I can see her eye leisure clearly and I love it
However, on the other side I do not like this picture that much
Because it does not tell any story behind it
I just took the picture


This is Vanessa!!!
She was laying down on the floor and saying she is tired
And I made her to look at the camera.
Actually I wanted to express the exhaustion of her,
But I think this picture does not express that feeling that well
However I still like this picture
Because I think it is successful technically




When I took this picture, she was sad and angry
Because she just lost her shoal which is very important to her
She told me that her mom bought that shoal in Europe when she was pregnant of Vanessa, and she gave it to Vanessa later
At the first time when Vanessa realized that she lost it she got mad
However, later she became calm but still did not know what to do
And that feeling was what I want to express through this picture
In this picture, she looks like little confused, sad, and mad
So I think I succeed to show something through photo
However, this picture is little out of focus so I think it would be better if it is focused well


It’s ME wearing ballet shoes
But it is not really me
My dad wanted me to experience a lot of things before I grew up
So since I was young, my dad really helped me to try everything I wanted
I played violin, piano, kayagum, a Korean instrument, and other instrument
I did art
I did dance and ballet
However, as I grew I stopped doing all these things eventually
And now I really regret for stopping doing everything I did in the past
Last week I saw my friend doing ballet and I felt so sad
And I kept thought about what if I keep doing everything I did
I really don’t understand why I quitted




This is Laura Lee!!
While I was taking pictures, Laura Lee was talking to Vanessa.
She was emotional so much that day
So she was a perfect model because she was already expressing how she felt even before we start to talk and take pictures
She was in kind of bad mood and she was talking about a serious thing.
In this picture she looks like little mad, sad, and considering something.
I love this picture because it is the most successful picture for expressing someone’s feeling
On the technical side, I really like that I can see a lot of details of her hairs and her eyes
Especially I love her eyes in this picture
It looks deep so it makes her more thoughtful.
I kind of like the like the light
I put a light right next to her face but it was not that strong light
So actually it didn’t work that well
I could do better with the composition of this picture
I used my white blanket for the background
Since Laura Lee was sitting on a little chair and my blanket couldn’t reach over her body
I just took picture like this
And I really regret that because I could not retake this picture because both Laura Lee and me didn’t have time to retake
However it is still a good picture I think
